"The Taking by the Wind": A Garabaggio Fine Art Print

October 9th, 2:26 AM. The wind came up Ravel Street from the river and I was standing at the crossing with my hands in my pockets like a man waiting for a light that was never going to change. It took the umbrella off the curb in one motion. Not a tumble. A seizure. By the time it landed it was already out across the painted bars, canopy folded back on itself, the shaft laid along the white paint like an arm extended in surrender. Caravaggio's *Taking of Christ* contains no violence at all, which is what nobody tells you about it. It is a painting about crowding. Bodies press in, a lantern arrives, and the thing is done before a single hand is raised. The wind worked the same way. It pressed. It crowded. It was finished in under a second, and then it went on up the street to press on something else. The viewer will note the crosswalk stripes running beneath the object, four rungs of wet white climbing toward the lamp, and will understand that the city had painted that ladder there years in advance and for other purposes. *Ventus venit. Nemo vidit.*
