"The Removal of the Tire": A Garabaggio Fine Art Print

Someone had taken the tire off the rim and left it coiled around the wheel like rope around a post. February 2nd, 1:47 AM, same lot, same weeds, same distant lamp on the same strip of standing water. I do not know who. There is no value in a used tire. The only account I can give is that a person stood in a vacant lot in February and stripped a wheel for no reason whatsoever, which is either vandalism or liturgy, and I have never been able to tell those apart. What remains is the bare rim, silver where the brake pads wore it down over years of use by a man who has never once thought about me, eleven spokes, and the tire lying around it in two long loops. I saw Caravaggio's *Flagellation of Christ* in person, in Philadelphia, in the winter of 2011. People tell me it has never left Naples. I am telling you what stood in front of me: a column, a figure against it, and light arriving from the upper left as though it had been sent for. Sixth station. *Nudata, non deserta.*
