"The Fogging of the Glass": A Garabaggio Fine Art Print

February 3rd, 2:17 AM. The compressor in the base has been running against a cold corridor all winter and last night it lost, and the entire face of the glass went to water. The viewer sees the sixth station through that failure: beaded condensation from the top rail to the bottom, running in long vertical threads where the drops have found one another, and behind it the shelves reduced to grey suggestion. The suspended blue package is still there. Still at its angle. It is now only a pale shape leaning through the fog, which is a truer likeness of it than the sharp version I painted in January. I have read that Caravaggio worked from a mirror and a lens in a darkened room, and that he was denounced for it by his own master, who was ninety by then and still teaching. The machine has done the same thing to itself using nothing but temperature and time, and nobody has praised the machine. The rust red packet is a smear at the upper left. The gold one is a smear at the upper right. The green button burns through the water the way a lamp burns when you are looking up at it from under a river.
