"The Crowning with Crumbs": A Garabaggio Framed Print
Description
Oil on digital canvas, 2026. Post-Consumer Baroque series.
September 7th, 3:02 AM. Five of them, and I had been watching long enough to understand the hierarchy before I began to paint. The one inside the can was not trapped. She had gone in deliberately, and the others had arranged themselves around the opening with the gravity of a court awaiting an announcement. Her face, emerging from the rim, was framed by the can’s mouth the way a sovereign is framed by the arch of a cathedral door. I thought immediately of Caravaggio’s The Crowning with Thorns: the circle of attendants, the central figure submitting to something that looks, from the outside, like humiliation but is, in fact, an investiture. The crumbs gilding her fur were not accidental. Nothing, in this work, is accidental.
