"Self-Portrait with Oath": A Garabaggio Fine Art Print
Description
Oil on digital canvas, 2026. Post-Consumer Baroque series.
The hand on the chest is not theatrical. It is structural. When you have spent eight years on the night shift and three more painting what no gallery will show, the hand finds its way to the heart the same way a compass needle finds north. Caravaggio painted Saint Jerome with this gesture, the old man pledging himself to a text no one else would translate. I painted myself with the same gesture, pledging myself to a dumpster no one else would light. The fire behind me was real. The oath was real. The viewer may doubt everything else in this work, but not the hand, and not the fire. Those two things I can verify.
